Clearly it did a full backup again,Įven though it was not needed, and I was hoping for an incremental. This morning the files size is 85.6 gigabytes. Then I launched BACKUP AND RESTORE to do an incremental backup. Last night I checked the size of that file before I started. So I moved that backup file to another folder on the hard drive (out of the root folder), and ran a new full backup. Then last week I ran Windows Backup expecting an incremental to take place. For example, three weeks ago I did a new full backup. I've not changed my software substantially since, and in the last month or so, Windows started a behavior of That is the behavior I need and would expect based on documentation and the claims made in the link above. After making a full backup, subsequent times when I would perform aīackup, the size of the backup file would increase about 10% or less (because it was only adding the changed files). I put the backups on a USB hard drive separate from my computer. When I first started using Windows 7 Pro 64 last summer, generally I was getting incremental backups to work.

As far as I can tell, the Microsoft people keep saying the same thing, that Windows Backup does do incrementals. Numerous users explain that after a full backup, they are not getting incremental backups, but just another full one, doubling the There is a long thread on this topic elsewhere (I cannot put the link for that because my account is not yet verified).
